Sledgehammer Games and E3 2013!

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, held annually in Los Angeles, begins next week on June 11th and runs through June 13th. E3 is one of the biggest gatherings on the video game calendar and we can’t wait to see more of the great titles in development from our colleagues across the industry. Activision, publisher of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Destiny and the Skylanders franchise, as well as Sledgehammer Game's parent company, will once again be a major presence. Equally, we're thrilled to see more from the new generation of gaming consoles that mark this exciting year for gamers and developers alike.

Glen, Michael and members of the team from Sledgehammer Games will be down all week to research, play, and celebrate. If you catch us on the floor, please say hello. For those unable to attend, we'll be updating our channels with an inside look from a developer’s perspective from the show this year. Look out for updates all week from our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts.

Hammer on!

Hammers Do Their Part for Earth Day 2013

Our hats are off to the Hammers that attended the California Parks Foundation’s 16th Annual Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup. One of our core studio principals is to give back to the community around us, and last weekend a group volunteered to clean up Dunes Beach, part of Half Moon State Beach, in Half Moon Bay, California. The cleanup consisted of the removal of non-native plants, planting native plants, fixing posts, and the installation of garbage and recycling areas.  One of the teams that volunteered broke off to remove ice plant, a decorative plant that is non-native to the state of California, because it starves native plants and erodes the beach. Another team was tasked with the installation of foundations for trash receptacles on the beach, and the restoration of road posts to indicate parking areas for visitors. If you’d like to find out more about how to help out, check out Earth Day Network’s website for activities in your area.

Sledgehammer Games at GDC 2013

The Game Developers Conference, held annually in San Francisco, is a a great chance for our developers to mingle with peers, get back to their roots, and celebrate the video game industry. This year, a group of Hammers attended GDC 2013 and had an excellent time soaking in the culture and learning a lot from the presenters. Check below for a few images from the event last week!

Picture of the crowd at Activision's GDC Party. Good times were had by all.

Basket of Activision's Atari history at the Activision GDC Party Tuesday night.

Some extremely mean looking gators in Pitfall, at the Activision GDC Party.

Activision's GDC Party drink menu. The Black Ops Dark & Stormy was delicious.

VIP at the Independent Game Developers and Game Developers Choice Award Ceremony.

Outside the Steam party on Wednesday night. Where, truth be told...

..."The cake is a lie."

Z-Trip at the Valve Party on Wednesday night. Amazing show!

One more of Z-Trip at the Valve Party.

The Microsoft Party definitely had a theme going. Great party and the band was excellent.

Sledgehammer Games Announces New Initiative in Social Entertainment

Today at GDC 2013, Sledgehammer Games unveiled a new face for the development company - “Rubber Mallet Games,” and announced that they would be pushing the initiative to “Connect Through Caring™.”   The studio team, comprised of 140+ developers, will be transitioning their efforts from developing AAA games over to mobile and social platforms to create games to connect players and fans on an intimate and emotional level. “GDC has always been the venue for bold and thought provoking initiatives in our space.” stated Michael Condrey, Co-Founder and Studio Head of Development for Rubber Mallet Games. “The independent developer community has really opened our eyes to a different way of connecting with players sentimentally. It was natural we'd use this conference to unveil our new studio direction."  The rebranding of Sledgehammer Games to Rubber Mallet Games™ has already begun to roll out over their social space, and the core idea behind the brand refresh is to make the team appear more "friendly, heartwarming, and adorable."

Rubber Mallet Games™ is extremely excited about their upcoming game, Glass, and expect to delight fans at E3 with its premier.

For more information on Rubber Mallet Games, please check out SledgehammerGames.com.
