SHG Weekly Community Update - Friday, February 23

by Sledgehammer Games

It’s that time of the week again! Our SHG Weekly Community Update is here. We’re heading into the last weekend of The Resistance Community Event, and it’s a Triple Double weekend! 2XP, 2DivisionXP, and 2WeaponXP are there for the taking until Monday, February 26th at 10AM PT.

As you know, this week we wished good luck to Glen and Michael as they move on from Sledgehammer Games and begin the next chapters of their careers at Activision. We welcomed Aaron Halon as our new Studio Lead, and are excited to embark on a new journey with him! As a studio, we are evolving, but remain 100% committed to support and development on Call of Duty: WWII. Our passion for the game and the community hasn’t changed. Our efforts to continue to improve the game are still in full force!

We saw your feedback about our use of “coming soon” in our last update. Wherever possible, we try to get solid dates for when features and changes will be implemented and share them with you. At the very least, we like to tell you about things we’re working on, even if we haven’t nailed down a date just yet. Things can, and often do, change in game development, and we want to make sure we are flexible and able to adapt to whatever we might encounter. That said, expect to see a reduced use of “coming soon” coming soon… (Sorry, we had to. 😉)

We know this week’s update is a bit light. That’s because we pushed out some major changes this week with game mechanics. It’s awesome to see all the massively positive reactions to the latest changes we’ve made to weapons and ADS! We can’t wait for you to try them out and let us know what you think.

With that, here are our updates for the week:

Free PC Weekend. From now until Sunday at 1PM PT, Call of Duty: WWII Multiplayer is free to access on PC! Head to Steam now to download.

Weapon Tuning and ADS Adjustments. We just pushed through a hefty series of adjustments to weapons and ADS times. For a full list of what we changed, see our Reddit post.

War and Global XP. We’ve been working hard with our data scientists and analysts to investigate match XP earn rates after seeing quite a few reports from the community that they seemed low. After collecting data across all major modes (including the now-resolved XP issues we faced in Prop Hunt), not just War Mode, we can confirm that match XP earn rates are consistent across all modes, and earning at the rate that they should be. As you complete your Challenges, your bonus XP rates will likely become lower over time as challenges are completed at a decreasing rate, but the match XP players are earning has not changed. We recommend taking a look at your After Action Report (AAR) after each match, which gives you a full breakdown on XP earned. We take the community’s concerns seriously, and we are glad we were able to look into this and clarify!

Drostan Hynd’s Background: Drostan is a former humanities professor from the University of Edinburgh who flirted with the occasional black-market art theft. He was caught by the Metropolitan Police and given a choice: go to jail or help the MFAA Program reclaim stolen Nazi art. He made the choice to help, but hasn't lost any of his rougher edges. He has a wife and newborn daughter at home, and is willing to do what it takes to get back to them.

A Dead Tongue. Professor Hynd has been gathering notes he “collected” from Straub’s files in Mittelburg and Heligoland, musings on the speech of the undead. He is ready to share his working theory on this corrupted language, so get your pencils and papers ready.

And now, our chance to put the spotlight on some of you awesome and passionate players and artists!

Shout-out to xstorradax for this drawing of our cover art for Call of Duty: WWII. Keep up the good work!

Thank you, INSANEAXLE, for this tribute artwork to our game!

A cute rendition by ReverseOsmosis999 of three of our main Campaign characters, reflecting their personalities.

Shout-out to Brandon Hartshorn on his 3D illusion of our Call of Duty: WWII logo. Nice work!

That wraps things up for this week. Make sure to tell us how you like the game (and the new changes in mechanics), and let us know how we can approve via our social channels:
